The brutal knockout on that show is talked about at www.newsday.com in a story Ultimate Fighting hopeful takes a brutal beating, as Dan Simmler, who got KO'd by Matthew Riddle, is from Long Island. If you didn't see it, it airs in the first match on the show that airs tonight. It's almost too sick. What is interesting is years ago they would have never shown so much of him moaning in the ring and the post-match and they are great clips for opponents of the sport to air because the average person would see them and think maybe it shouldn't be allowed. There are quotes from Simmler in the story, and said he didn't remember any of the fight as he watched it again on TV this past week.
Kimbo Slice, in a suit, tie and fedora was brought to the ring at last night's Showtime boxing event from Tampa. No surprise, as Gary Shaw, the Elite XC promoter, was also the promoter of last night's boxing card built around Antonio Tarver (thanks to Daniel McDonald)
--WXII in North Carolina did a story on the full contact fighting at a high school in the area and the overseeing teacher being suspended for ten days at www.wxii12.com/news/15859930/detail.html
--The South Florida Sun-Sentinel at www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/ has a major story on MMA. It has the current stats, as well as the revisionist history of Dana White changing all the rules when he and the Fertittas bought UFC. Can't believe they still get that story across, saying they added weight classes, banned eye gouging, groin kicking and head-butting. They interviewed Bas Rutten and Randy Couture for the piece. It also talks about South Florida as the home of the American Top Team.
--Eddie Bravo, Phil Baroni and Bas Rutten were all negative on MMA competition for children, following on the recent national news story.
