My first taste of the Hero’s promotion had me in awe. With names such as Goodridge, Mighty Mo and Uno on the card, we were guaranteed a few big hits. Let me tell you, there was plenty.

Our commentators for the evening, Pierre Guillet and Dale Adams, gave us an insightful look into the fighters during the usual parade of fighters and that alone, left me ready for what was to be a great night for MMA.

The fights, which started with Yoshiki Takahashi coming up against Melvin Manhoef, finished quickly, almost too quickly, and I often found myself wanting more. That should be expected. After all, this was my first taste of this type of MMA and already, I found myself wondering why we were seeing constant first round stoppages.

Credit to the fighters, they came to fight and that they certainly did. It was a breath of fresh air and certainly, you look at the UFC and particularly most of the UFC 83 card and wonder why they don’t follow this example. There is a lot to be learned from simply going out and getting at your opponent and the fighters on this DVD proved it.

It might have got repetitive for some but for me, some of these fights were MMA at its best and any fan should get this DVD to see some fantastic performances.

I’m a big fan of his, so probably biased, but the performance of Gary Goodridge over Jan “The Giant” Nortje was brilliant. Also, if you’re looking for pure velocity and explosiveness, then you have to watch the fight between Yoshihisa Yamamoto against Katsuyori Shibata. It’s been said elsewhere, but Yamamoto genuinely looks like he wants to destroy Shibata. With nine seconds gone on the clock, Yamamoto picks up a victory that must rank up there with one of his best.

There isn’t much more I can say without giving away all the finishes. I simply don’t want to do that. You should go out, buy this DVD and see the finishes for yourself. Any fan of MMA needs to have seen this. As a journalist who focuses mainly on UFC, I was surprised at many of these fighters. It was an unbelievably different style of fighting.

The second disc of features, which include three preliminary fights and post fight interviews, are also a good addition to this collector’s item and are certainly worth watching.

In conclusion, you should buy this DVD. If you want to see a group of fights that show everything that is right with MMA, then this is a must watch. Hard hitting, fast paced and at times, breathtaking. This DVD has it all.
