Review:

After an awesome Cagerage 21, this DVD was always going to be a hard cat to follow and from the off, it showed a lot of promise with the ring girls and dancers starting the event off it was time to get fired up for some British Cagerage Championship action from a packed out Wembley Arena. The show as always was presented by Andy Geer and Dave O’Donnel and they start off with a run down of what we can expect tonight in Cagerage 22.

Most of the pre match fighting talk kept to a minimum. The entrances use the overdub music but thankfully they are kept short and go straight into the action. This is what I like with the latest releases of Cagerage; they seem to have ditched all the arty farty rubbish and concentrating on the action in the cage, after all that’s what the fight fans want! Nice end of round replays and once again we have a countdown clock, which unfortunately they have added to the top right handed corner, rather than the bottom of the screen.

Camera, edit and match/fighter graphics are a high quality once again helps give the big event feel fit for TV and DVD release.

It also appears that they have at last got the sound mix of commentary and crowd noise at a decent level that draws the DVD watchers into the action.

The card as always is loaded and has a great mixture of styles and weights. The opening bout with Tom Watson up against Ed Smith, which went through the three five minute rounds to the judges decision was a great start to the show and a pretty decent bout.

One of the names that might interest casual fight fans is The Ultimate Fighter star ‘Ross ‘The Gladiator’ Pointon.’ who is in action against Dean Bray. This bout was one of the best fights on the card with so much back and forth it was hard to work out who had the upper hand until the winner forced a tap out.

Another great gladiatorial match that went to the judges decision was the CageRage British Light Heavyweight Title bout, a bout that saw the challenger Paul Cahoon take on Mark Epstien. This bout was mainly a standup exchange of powerful punches and kicks, which at times went to the mat and saw some claret flow from below the eye and nose of Cahoon.

Fan favourite Gary Turner who in Cagerage 20 took on a defeated the legend Tank Abbott in a first round stoppage was looking for more of the same along with the fans against the Brazilian Edson Drago. Drago looked in much better shape than Turner and for most of the first round had Turner on his back dishing out serious punishment.

The second round Drago looked more tired and soon was opened up by Turner, after a quick check by the doctor he was allowed to continue. Moments later after a massive exchange of stand up blows, Turner ended up being bust open and again the fight was stopped this time to look at the eye of Turner.

Just before the third round was about to start, one of the fighters was forced to retire from the fight.

In one of the fastest wins I have seen in Cagerage (10 seconds), saw James Thompson knocked clean out after a Neil Grove (who took the fight at short notice) went in with some monster bombs and one connected right on the button.

The main event saw two massive heavyweight fighters meet in the cage. Tengiz Tedoradze take on the world famous monster of Eric "Butterbean" Esch. This fight did not last the first round but the sheer determination of both fighters shone through and left Butterbean a bloody mess.

Overall this DVD was the best MMA DVD I have watched outside the UFC. Cagerage Championship DVD’s are now looking like any premier fighting organisation in the world. If you’re a Mixed Martial Arts fan and fancy something different from the UFC and Pride or even if you have seen some of the previous Cagerage releases and were not over impressed, this is the DVD for you.
