Kalib Starnes has been dropped by the UFC following his roundly condemned performance at UFC 83 in Montreal, Canada on Saturday night. Canadian middleweight Starnes was matched with Nate Quarry but consistently refused to engage and spent the majority of the three round bout backpedalling and wheeling away. Quarry was clearly frustrated by the end of the third round and resorted to mocking Starnes, first by jogging round the ring after him and then by lurching after him while waving his arm in a bizarre fashion. The crowd had chanted "boring" several times during the fight and left no doubt as to who they blamed at the end, roundly booing Starnes every time his face appeared on screen. And the judges were equally unimpressed, with one of them scoring the fight 30 - 24 in Quarry's favour. That means he gave Quarry every round by 10-8 and sets a new record for widest points margin in a UFC fight. Announcing that Starnes' services are no longer required by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, company president Dana White was unequivocal in his condemnation. "He just doesn't belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work," he said. SOURCE: John O'Regan and www.fightersonlymagazine.co.uk |
